Our History

In 1986, several prominent Restaurateurs founded the Greek American Restaurant Association (GARA), and had a unique marketing concept. This concept had three visionary goals: grow and unite the restaurant community; leverage their purchases; seek favorable pricing and rebates from their purveyors/partners, and support the community through Philanthropic programs.

Twenty-five years later, their visionary goals have exceeded expectations, resulting in over $5,000,000 being donated to various charitable causes and Scholarships, while supporting many community Philanthropic programs.

Continuing the visionary foresight, a second entity was formed in January 2009. This “For Profit” Cooperative’s mission statement has a dual task of channeling the purveyors rebate revenues to its participative members, while supporting GARA’s Philanthropic efforts.

Today, GARA is supported by over 1,000 restaurants throughout the Chicago land area. The goal is simple: contribute to the bottom line of the members that we service while increasing sales for participating suppliers.

The cooperative is dedicated to assisting restaurant owners in reducing their product costs by uniting independent restaurants and other foodservice operators.

Consider becoming a member and benefiting from an organization that supports the community while helping increase your bottom line!

About GARA

GARA is a foodservice purchasing organization serving independent restaurateurs and foodservice operations. Our mission is to provide business solutions to restaurateurs through strategic vendor partnerships, positive communications, education and the promotion of operating standards that encourage operational excellence.
